Gujarat government has started Free Ration Scheme 2021 namely Anna Brahma Yojana to tackle Coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic outbreak. In this scheme, the state govt. will provide food items like wheat, rice, pulses, sugar absolutely free of cost. This scheme will ensure that no poor people in the state remain hungry. Around 60 lakh APL ration card holder families (3.25 crore people) to benefit from Gujarat Free Ration Scheme.
Coronavirus (COVID 19) is a pandemic which is quite scary if it takes the form of community transmission. Starting from Wuhan in China, this disease has become major outbreak in USA, Brazil, Italy, Spain, India and 180+ countries worldwide. To prevent its further outbreak in India and particularly in Gujarat, the state govt. has started Free Ration Scheme 2021.

Gujarat Free Ration Scheme 2021
Last year on 8 April 2020, Gujarat govt. had announced to provide free ration to around 60 lakh above poverty line (APL) families who are not covered in National Food Security Act (NFSA). This decision to start Gujarat Free Ration Scheme was taken in the cabinet meeting held under the supervision of CM Vijay Rupani.
Food Items to be Given under Free Ration Scheme in Gujarat
Each APL-1 card holder family will get the following items free of cost.:-
- 10 kg wheat
- 3 kg rice
- 1 kg pulses
- 1 kg sugar
The state govt. has distributed free ration to around 65 lakh families holding either priority ration cards or Antyodaya ration cards. The distribution of essential food commodities under Gujarat Free Ration Scheme 2021 will be done through fair price shops. This scheme will ensure that poor who depends on daily wages for livelihood are not affected by coronavirus outbreak.
Need for Free Ration Scheme for APL-1 Families
This scheme will ensure that buyers will not have to line up in front of ration shops to buy monthly ration. People will not have to purchase food items as govt. will now provide free of cost ration. There are several APL-1 ration card holder families who needed free ration but were denied as their name was not included in NFSA beneficiaries list.
Around 60 lakh families or 3.25 crore individuals holding ration cards will get food items under Free Ration Scheme in Gujarat. This includes 10 kg wheat and 3 kg rice per person and 1 kg of pulses, sugar and salt per family free of cost. The chief minister said his government is concerned about the state’s poor families and will continue to take decisions to benefit them.
What is Gujarat Anna Brahma Yojana 2021
Gujarat govt. has launched Anna Brahma Yojana 2021 for migrant labourers who suffered due to COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. Now in the new Anna Brahma Scheme of Gujarat, all non ration card holder migrant workers will get food grains and other food items absolutely free. This decision is taken to ensure that no person in the state is left hungry during the Coronavirus crisis. The new Anna Brahma Yojana includes workers from other states such as Uttar Pradesh (UP), Madhya Pradesh (MP), Bihar, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu etc who have returned to Gujarat. Free Food Grains to Non-Ration Card Holders
The state govt. of Gujarat has start Anna Brahma Scheme for migrant labourers from other states like UP, MP, Bihar, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamilnadu etc who are currently present in the state. This scheme is important in the view that before the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak, many people from various states were working here as daily wagers. But due to COVID-19 spread, people are not allowed to work as before and migrant workers are now facing problems due to lack of ration, essential commodities as well as money.
Accordingly, Gujarat govt. has started Anna Brahma Yojana to provide free food grains to all those people who does not have ration cards with them. This Anna Brahma Scheme was started from 4 April 2020 where govt. had started distributing foodgrains to poor people. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had announced Rs. 650 crore package for 65 lakh families of the poor, labourers, unorganised workers and construction workers of the state.

Gujarat Anna Brahma Yojana scheme is a very good initiative which has been started with the view of distributing free ration to all of the residences of the Gujarat state. Through the implementation of the ration scheme, many of the migrant workers who have come from the state of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh or any such state will be able to gain food ingredients without any of the precious money that they still have although many of the workers are almost living in poverty because of the lost work.

Benefits Of Gujarat Anna Brahma Yojana
There are many benefits of the scheme. The main benefits which will be provided to the residents of the state will be the availability of free of cost of food items for of the migrant worker who has come from other states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh or even Bihar. All of the residents will be able to gain food without giving any money to anyone. The food items will be available at the ration shop near your houses.
This scheme is a great initiative for all of the poor people of the Gujarat state. Government has set up 83 relief camps in the state where poor families of migrant labourers and others are getting food and shelter.
Documents Required
The following documents are required while getting the free ration from the PDS shops:-
- Aadhaar card
- Identification proofs
- Certificate of migrant worker
Registration Procedure
There is no fixed registration procedure under the scheme. You will be able to avail the benefits of the scheme if you have a correct proof that you are a migrant worker from other states. You will get the ration from your nearest PDS office.
Timelines for Free Ration Distribution in Gujarat
The date of distribution for free ration scheme in Gujarat would be decided later. The state govt. of Gujarat has decided to bear the entire cost of the scheme. CM urges that only those families who are in crisis and need food grains should avail govt’s scheme. Those who are well-to-do should only allow the needy to avail the scheme.
As works have been closed for quite some time now, poor families earning daily livelihood face great problems. CM said that the sensitive government understands this and will take more such decisions in future so such people do not face face much hurdle. CM Vijay Rupani also requested people to stay indoors to stay safe.
