Maharashtra government has launched Balasaheb Thackeray Maji Sainik Sanman Yojana 2021 on 29 October 2020. This scheme is primarily launched in the honor of ex-servicemen or soldiers residing permanently in Maharashtra. Under this scheme, all the soldiers who stayed permanently in the state will be exempted from residential property tax payment.

- The decision to launch the Balasaheb Thackeray Maji Sainik Samman Yojana has been passed by the state cabinet in its meeting held on October 29, 2020.
- The new scheme aims to covers the ex-servicemen, soldiers and their widows.
- Under this scheme the beneficiaries get the benefit of residential property tax exemption.
- Earlier Urban development department took a decision for exempting the gallantry medal winners from defence and widows of ex servicemen living in urban areas of the state from the property tax payment.
- Later on, the Rural development department took the decision to exempt the widows of ex-servicemen from tax payment in rural areas.
- Thus the state cabinet has decided to merge both the scheme decisions and launched the Balasaheb Thackeray Maji Sainik Samman Yojana.
Balasaheb Thackeray Maji Sainik Sanman Yojana is named after Shiv Sena founder late Balasaheb Thackeray. This scheme is launched to honor the ex-servicemen, soldiers and their widows.
