Tamil Nadu State Mental Health Authority is inviting application form for TN Mental Health Professionals Registration at tnhealth.tn.gov.in. Tamilnadu State Mental Health Authority will maintain register of practising mental health professionals such as clinical psychologists, mental health nurses and psychiatric social workers. In this article, we will describe the process to download TN Mental Health Professionals Registration / Application Form.

The registration process of Mental Health Professionals is in accordance with the provisions contained in Section 55(d) of Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 and in accordance with the decision taken in 1st annual meeting of the Authority held on 18.07.2019. The eligibility criteria to apply for filling TN Mental Health Professionals Registration form is given in this post.

The register proposed will be maintained by the State authority and would be in digital form. It would contain the names, professional qualifications and contact details of the mental health professionals. The list will be available on the Authority’s
website and shall be updated every month.

Step 5: Here applicants can download application form and enter details such as type of mental health professional, name, nationality, date of birth, gender, contact address, telephone number, general qualification, courses completion details, certificate etc. The duly filled in TN Mental Health Professionals Registration / Application form must be submitted along with copies of certificates / documents.

Eligibility Criteria for Tamilnadu Mental Health Professionals Registration

For TN Mental Health Professionals Registration purpose, the definitions of categories of mental health professionals namely clinical Psychologists, mental health nurses and psychiatric Social Workers as provided under clauses (g), (q) and (x) of section 2(1) of Mental Healthcare Act , 2017 (available on egazette at link http://www.egazette.nic.in/writereaddata/2017/175248.pdf) shall respectively be applicable. Here are the details of the eligible mental health professionals.

Clinical Psychologist Definition

A clinical psychologist means a person who possess the following eligibility criteria:-

• having a recognised qualification in Clinical Psychology from an institution approved and recognised, by the Rehabilitation Council of India, constituted under section 3 of the Rehabilitation Council of India Act, 1992; or
• having a Post-Graduate degree in Psychology or Clinical Psychology or Applied Psychology and a Master of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology or Medical and Social Psychology obtained after completion of a full time course of two years which includes supervised clinical training from any University recognised by the University Grants Commission established under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 and approved and recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India Act, 1992 or such recognised qualifications as may be prescribed.

Mental Health Nurse Definition

Mental Health Nurse means a person with a diploma or degree in general nursing or diploma or degree in psychiatric nursing recognised by the Nursing Council of India established under the Nursing Council of India Act, 1947 and registered as such with the relevant nursing council in the State.

Psychiatric Social Worker Definition

Psychiatric Social Worker means a person having a post-graduate degree in Social Work and a Master of Philosophy in Psychiatric Social Work obtained after completion of a full time course of two years which includes supervised clinical training from any University recognised by the University Grants Commission established under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or such recognised qualifications, as may be prescribed.

All the existing mental health professionals in the State belonging to the above mentioned categories of professionals, shall get registered with the TN State Mental Health Authority.

Benefits of TN Mental Health Professionals Registration

1. The registration of mental health professionals will remain valid for a period of 5 years from the registration date.
2. Each registered mental health professional shall apply for re-registration once in 5 years with Rs. 500 re-registration fee.
3. Every year as on 1st Jan, the TN State Mental Health Authority shall publish district wise, state wise list of mental health professionals and it shall be displayed on the Authority’s website.
