AP Home Herbal Garden Scheme 2020-2021 for Biodiversity Conservation

Andhra Pradesh government is going to launch AP Home Herbal Garden scheme 2020-2021 for biodiversity conservation. In this scheme, the state govt. will take up innovative programme of Home Herbal Garden as a part of biodiversity conservation programmes. AP State Biodiversity Board (APSBB) has prepared a vision document and 3 year perspective document for this scheme. AP Home Herbal Garden Scheme 2020-2021

AP Home Herbal Garden Scheme 2020-2021 includes the following measures for the conservation of biodiversity:-

  • Setting up biodiversity parks in all 13 districts of the state.
  • Setting up museums in 3 regions of the state.
  • Establishing one state-level biodiversity research station.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s had earlier mentioned that conservation of biodiversity is essential for human survival. CM even followed up with the saying that APSBB board was taking up several initiatives for conservation of biodiversity. He laid emphasis on creating more awareness on Biological Diversity Act 2002. 

Implementation of Home Herbal Garden Initiative

In FY 2021-22, the AP state govt. will be taking up an innovative programme called Home Herbal Garden Scheme. In this scheme, home herbal gardens would be encouraged to be developed at homes. As a pilot program, the govt. is targeting to encourage 1,500 families from each district, 50% of whom would be from SC/ST communities. The state govt. is making arrangements to raise nurseries to supply 50 plants of important medicinal value to help them improve the health and immunity status of the people.

AP Govt. Committee to Focus on Biodiversity Conservation

Around 14,204 biodiversity management committees were formed at village, mandal and municipality/corporation level in the last 6 months. The newly formed committees would focus on biodiversity conservation. Moreover, committee will also help in the enforcement of Biological Diversity Act, 2002, which focuses on three important aspects as follows:-

  1. Conservation of biological diversity.
  2. Sustainable utilisation of biological resources.
  3. Equitable sharing of biological resources and benefits among all stakeholders.

AP state govt. has also explained various initiatives taken up to conserve biodiversity. In the recent meeting, short films and calendar on biological diversity were unveiled.
