Deendayal Clinics are going to be setup by the Gujarat government for urban poor in slum areas. These Deen Dayal Clinics would be based on the successful Mohalla Clinics model which were setup in Delhi by Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party government. These Gujarat Deendayal Clinics would provide essential health services in urban areas.
Deendayal Clinics in Gujarat
The state govt. of Gujarat has announced to set up Deendayal Clinics for urban poor residing in densely populated areas like slums and shanties. The announcement comes in the backdrop of urban local body elections which are to be held in 6 municipal corporations and 55 municipalities of the state in February 2021.
Where Deen Dayal Clinics Would be Setup
The Deen Dayal Clinics would be Started on priority basis in those areas which are thickly populated. The Gujarat govt. has given directions to the state health department, municipal corporations and municipalities to shortlist such localities having large population.
Such clinics would be set up in slum areas of civic bodies with over 1 lakh population. The state govt. has instructed the municipal commissioners to identify the areas in their respective cities where such clinics can be set up while giving priority to populated areas.
There are many slums where ambulance or rickshaws cannot enter. People from such regions avoid visiting a doctor during the initial phase of a disease. They will go to a private doctor or a government clinic after the disease worsens.
Timings for Treatment in Deendayal Clinics
The Deendayal Clinics in Gujarat will remain open throughout the day. MBBS or AYUSH doctors will treat OPD patients and give medicines free of cost between 4pm and 6 pm every day. More than five Deendayal clinics will be started in the locality of Ramdev Pir Tekra in Ahmedabad which has a population of around 30,000.
Announcement for Deendayal Clinics Scheme
The Gujarat govt. has made Deendayal Clinics Scheme announcement in the state budget for 2020-21. It was unable to be implemented as the entire health department machinery has been engaged in fighting the pandemic since March 2020. The Deendayal Yojana is a permanent scheme of the state government which will help poor people get treatment near their houses.
