West Bengal govt. has launched Bangla Krishi Sech Yojana to provide assistance to farmers to setup micro irrigation facilities. This scheme will ensure that farmers can cultivate their land using less amount of water. The state govt. will provide necessary help to small and marginal farmers in areas which receives less rainfall.
WB Bangla Krishi Sech Yojana will help farmers in Jangalmahal areas, Purulia & Bankura districts which receives lesser amount of rainfall. Micro-irrigation technology will ensure cultivation of crops, especially fruits & vegetables which utilizes less water. Agriculture Department of West Bengal had taken initiative and identified 2 artificial processes – drip irrigation and sprinkle irrigation for this purpose.
West Bengal Bangla Krishi Sech Yojana 2021 for Farmers
Drip irrigation and Sprinkle irrigation are 2 important processes which will help in cultivation of more acres of land using less quantity of water. Various trials and tests proves that both these processes are helpful in cultivation of crops with lesser water consumption. CM Mamata Banerjee has received the proposal for this purpose which has now been approved in the cabinet.
It is important to note that Small & Marginal Farmers can’t bear the cost of drip irrigation and sprinkle irrigation mechanisms. Drip Irrigation mechanism costs around Rs. 70,000 and Sprinkle Irrigation mechanism will cost around Rs. 20,000 per acre of land. Farmers will get these facilities absolutely free of cost. The state govt. has allocated around Rs. 35 crore for the project.
Objectives of Bangla Krishi Sech Yojana
The Bangla Krishi Sech Yojana scheme is envisioned to the following objectives:-
- Support farmers in cultivation.
- Facilitate them to cultivate their land with less water.
- Ensure that the crops are not affected due to lesser rains through the proper supply of water.
Administration and Methodology of WB Krishi Sech Yojna
The scheme will be supervised by the West Bengal Agricultural Department. The Department has identified two artificial processes that aids cultivation on more acres of land using less water, namely drip irrigation and sprinkle irrigation. These mechanisms were adopted by the Department after conducting the necessary trials and tests, which rendered the processes to be effective for this purpose.
An Overview of Drip and Sprinkle Irrigation
Drip irrigation, also known as trickle irrigation, involves the dripping of water into the soil at substantially lower rates (2-20 litres per hour) from a system of small diameter plastic pipes fitted with outlets known as emitters or drippers. Drip irrigation ensures the maximum use of available water, with the added benefits of maximum crop yields and efficient use of fertilizers.
Sprinkler Irrigation, on the other hand, is a system wherein water is applied to soil surfaces using mechanical and hydraulic devices that simulate natural rainfall. The devices used for sprinkling include sprays or guns which would be mounted on risers or moving platforms. It could be applied to almost all irrigable soils as sprinklers are available in a wide range of discharge capacities.
Features of the WB Krishi Sech Yojana
- The scheme is aimed at aiding poor and marginal farmers in enhancing their crop cultivation by providing free irrigation facilities at areas that experience scanty rainfall.
- It entails the installation of micro-irrigation facility for farmers, which not only helps them in meeting the water requirements but also results in the prevention of water wastage.
- The scheme proposes the utilization of two irrigation techniques (as already seen). The cost of installation of drip irrigation mechanism is Rs. 70,000, whereas that of sprinkle irrigation machine is Rs. 20,000. These costs would entirely be borne by the State Government.
- Apart from the cultivation of food crops, the scheme would ensure proper water supply to the farms for growing vegetables and fruits.
- The project has received an allocation of Rs. 25 crores.
WB Krishi Sech Yojana Registration Requirements
As the scheme has recently been announced by the Government, details pertaining to the application form, registration, documents to be submitted, etc., hasn’t been specified yet. Once it is released, the information would be published on the portal of the West Bengal Government.
Expert Support for Krishi Sech Scheme
The project will be executed in collaboration with experts, who would be entrusted with the task of developing mechanisms for individual farmers and assisting them in getting familiarized with the same. The scheme is very farmer-centric, so much so the payments to the experts will only be made after scrutinizing their roles and obtaining feedback from the farmers.
WB Bangla Krishi Sech Yojana is a continuous process and thus the amount could go up later with the success of this project. Several experts will be engaged for this purpose in order to provide support to the farmers to carry out this project. Experts will develop mechanisms for individual farmers and govt. will also provide necessary support to farmers. State govt. will make payment to experts after receiving feedback from farmers and proper scrutiny of the same.
