Rajasthan Anandam Scheme 2021 to Make Community Outreach Mandatory in Higher Education

Rajasthan Anandam Scheme 2021 will soon be launched by the CM Ashok Gehlot led state government. Aanandam Scheme will inspire college students to contribute towards society and earn academic credits in return. In Rajasthan, community service will now be a credited subject to instill values like “Joy of Giving” in students in higher education institutes. The state govt. will make community outreach mandatory for college and university students.

The new Rajasthan Anandam Scheme will be the first-of-its-kind initiative in the country and has already received acceptance from most universities. More than 20 lakh college students will have to compulsorily volunteer for social causes. Such students will be familiarized with community service as part of their syllabus in this academic session.

The students will have to work for the welfare of society through assigned tasks, works which they have to complete on time. In this article, we will tell you about the complete details of the scheme.

Rajasthan Anandam Scheme 2021 for Students

Through Anandam Scheme, community service would be introduced in college curriculum which is inspired from Gandhian approach towards overall development of citizens. Anandam Scheme will allow students to decide the mode of service in which they wish to deliver.

Suggestive List of Projects in Rajasthan Anandam Scheme 2021

The suggestive list of the project under Rajasthan Anandam Scheme 2021 will include the following:-

  • Literacy programmes.
  • Livelihood projects.
  • Time giving activities to adopted communities like building awareness for government programmes.
  • Holding sessions for yoga, meditation or physical exercises.
  • Activities for the restoration of art and culture.
  • Activities towards environmental awareness and appreciating cultural diversities.
  • Several activities towards first-aid training and animal care.
  • Project activities like helping plant a community garden, taking up local social problems and devising solutions, attending to problems of the elderly.

Progress Report of Students in Rajasthan Aanandam Scheme

Mentors will review the project on the monthly basis and will submit the report to the nodal officer of the college. He / She will compile and share with higher authorities on Google spreadsheets. Separate Project Assessment Committees (PACs) will be constituted at university and state levels to assess the project report. The principal will choose the best project report taking into consideration the number of Rajasthan Anandam Scheme beneficiaries and impact on society.

Project report will then be uploaded on the Higher and Technical Education website and college page. State-level awards apart from certificate/letter of appreciation will also be given by Director, College Education/Department of Higher and Technical Education after assessment from State Level Project Assessment Committees. Aanandam is an exercise to build the bedrock of core values of community participation in students.

Anandam Subject Mandatory in Rajasthan

Anandam is a mandatory and credited subject, the grades of which will be added to calculate the aggregate percentage of marks of the students. The marks will be reported in the marksheet and given full weightage. Principal of each college must ensure that Anandam subject period of 30 minutes is displayed in college time tables. In 2020-21, this courses applies only to first year and PG (previous) classes. From 2021-22, it would be carried forward to next class and so on.

Benefits of Introduction of Community Service in College Curriculum

This is for the 1st time in any state in India, govt. has introduced community service in college curriculum. Along with contributing to the society, students will develop a better understanding of social and administrative setup around them. Students will get a chance to explore and get in touch with people already working in professions of their choice. The interpersonal and communication skills of students would also get developed.

In addition to this, the good deeds would reflect in the resumes of the students. It would be especially be of value for those applying for admission in universities abroad where community outreach has been a part and practice of the academic process of several colleges.

Happiness in Students through Anandam Scheme

It has been felt for long that education system in Rajasthan is not generating happy youth. Accordingly, there is a need for holistic education. So, Anandam Scheme is going to be introduced as mandatory credited subject in the curriculums of Higher and Technical Education. Aanandam will nurture the leadership qualities among our youth by connecting them with the community and its problems. It will make youth more understanding and empathetic and will reorient the purpose of education in the long run towards real happiness.

Academic Credits for Youth

The course demands students to engage in acts of goodness like caring, sharing, giving time and energy, take up a group project for serving the local community. While the students are directed to do an individual act of goodness each day and record this in a dedicated diary/register, they are also required to take up one community service project per semester. This will earn two credits for a project in each semester or 50 marks for each project to be completed in 4 months. The mentors who are none other than faculty members will maintain a register to record which will be submitted to the school principal every day.

Works in Anandam Scheme of Rajasthan

The Rajasthan Anandam Scheme will fetch student’s academic credits and will sensitize students towards social service. Here is the major section of works available under Anandam Scheme in Rajasthan:-

  • Cleaning of College / University Campus
  • Teaching slum children
  • Associating with some non-governmental organisation (NGO)
  • Others as per the project choosen

This Aanandam programme of the Higher and Technical Education department is also connected with enhancing the happiness index of students. This would not add to either any academic burden or financial burden on state exchequer or involve any classroom lectures. The teachers role in process will be limited to guidance only and will not require physical evaluation.
